In 4M, we follow the C.P.S. expectations of responsibility, respect, and safety. I am very serious about any member of my classroom, both child and adult, following our classroom expectations at all times. Logical rewards and logical consequences are given based on choices made. I know all members of the classroom community will make positive choices this year!
In addition to the C.P.S rules and expectations, we also follow the Responsive Classroom behavior model in 4M. Responsive Classroom "...is an evidence-based approach to elementary and middle school teaching that focuses on the strong link between academic success and social-emotional learning (SEL)." The first six weeks of school will be dedicated to establishing expectations as a class, knowing what good choices look and sound like in our classroom, cleaning up and staying organized independently, and being given classroom jobs, among other things. While we will still follow the daily academic schedule, the focus is on creating a safe, organized, and fun classroom community so that everyone feels that they are a part of the community.
Finally, I have created a ClassDojo account for our room this year. This is still a new program for me, but I feel it will be an awesome way for home and school to be connected in our classroom. I invite all parents, grandparents, and guardians of students in 4M to create a FREE account. I will also send home a ClassDojo permission form at the start of the year so you can see live pictures from our classroom! Things you can expect from ClassDojo include:
Parent-Teacher messaging to keep everyone in the loop on how your child's day is going.
Pictures of your student and their classmates working throughout the day.
Teacher AND student updates.
Directions for ClassDojo signup:
Get the ClassDojo app on your computer or smartphone.
Sign up as a "Parent."
Enter your parent code (to be sent home at the beginning of the year).
That's it! You're connected with 4M. :)
Please let me know you if have any questions on any of this!
