About Yoga and Mindfulness in 4M The benefits of cultivating a yoga and mindfulness practice in elementary-aged students are being proven more and more. Through movement and focused breathing, students are able to train their brains to remain focused, calm, and collected even during times of increased stress, frustration, and even anger.
In 4M, we practice yoga daily through the Yoga Pretzels program and GoNoodle. Your teacher LOVES to practice yoga in her free time, and wants to bring this piece of peace into your lives, too! Each week, 1-2 new students are chosen to be that week's "yoga teachers." They are able to choose a series of poses which are illustrated on cards to teach us throughout the week.
Additionally, we practice daily mindfulness for 5-10 minutes per day using the website www.calm.com. Whenever we are feeling stressed, overly energetic, unfocused, or just plain need a break, we listen to the calming words offered on this great site.
If students feel they want to opt out on a particular day, all we ask is that they sit quietly, read a book, or work on their mindfulness coloring packets so that we aren't disturbed while we practice. Yoga can be hard for some students to buy into at first, but stay patient, and I can promise you will love it. Students will never be expected to do something that will make them feel uncomfortable, but they are expected to try something new! Thank you.
